Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) last week successfully held its 14th National Delegates Conference at the Bintumani Conference Centre in Freetown, an event widely described by observers and participants as peaceful, transparent, and well-organized.
The conference brought together delegates from across the country to elect a new set of national executive members, reinforcing the party’s commitment to internal democracy and participatory governance.
In the race for the position of National Chairman, Jimmy Batilo Songa won with 618 votes, defeating his opponent, Engineer Amara J. Kanneh, who garnered 396 votes. For the role of National Secretary-General, Hon. Paran Tarawalie secured a decisive victory with 848 votes, while his challenger, Deputy Minister Sarjoh Aziz-Kamara, received 101 votes.
Other officials elected to the new executive body include Robert Kondema Kargbo as Deputy Chairman, Judith Kosseh as National Treasurer, Augustine JJ Tommy as Auditor, Shaka Sannoh as Financial Secretary, Smart Senesie as Chaplain, and Anthony Berewa as Legal Adviser.
The elections were conducted under the oversight of the Independent Elections Monitoring and Oversight Committee (IEMOC), chaired by Ambassador Yongawo. The committee has been praised for its impartiality and effective coordination, which contributed significantly to the smooth running of the process.
President Julius Maada Bio, who also serves as the party leader, addressed delegates before voting began. He reiterated his neutrality in the internal contest and called on delegates to vote based on merit, unity, and vision. His remarks emphasized the importance of electing leaders who would build on the party’s achievements and uphold its core values.
The outcome of the conference has been lauded by party members and external observers as a demonstration of political maturity and organizational discipline.
