Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) has inaugurated Jimmy Batilo Songa as their new National Chairman. Songa is taking over from Prince Harding, who served the party for over five years.

Some members of the patrty believes that Songa brings to the role a proven record of public service, deep commitment to the SLPP’s values, and a clear vision for strengthening the party’s structures and uniting its membership.

He is expected to assume full-time responsibility for leading the SLPP’s strategic direction, membership mobilisation, and organisational renewal.

“I am honoured to serve as National Chairman of the SLPP,” Songa said.

The SLPP welcomes Jimmy Batilo Songa as National Chairman after winning the party’s primaries earlier this year. His supporters believe that he is fully committed to serve the party.

“I have resigned my government post to focus completely on the work ahead. My priorities will be to strengthen our party institutions, unite members around a shared programme, and set a clear course for effective, people-centred leadership. I invite every member and supporter to join me in this national effort,” Songa stressed.

Some party members believe that his decision to dedicate himself fully to the party underscores a rare commitment to public service and to the SLPP’s future. He is expected to rebuild grassroots networks, heal divisions, and prepare the party to deliver inclusive governance for Sierra Leone.

Mr. Songa’s resignation from his role as Deputy Commissioner of NaCSA will take effect in December 2025. It is believed that his prolonged handover of his public duty is to allow for an orderly handover and to ensure his immediate availability to lead party activities.
