Africa-Press – South-Africa. Eight classrooms and a storeroom have been damaged after a fire broke out at Drommedaris Primary School in Boksburg, Gauteng.

The fire started on Sunday at around 13:00, and one of the school employees informed the fire authorities, who extinguished the blaze.

Gauteng Department of Education spokesperson Steve Mabona said eight Grade R to Grade 3 classrooms and the school’s storeroom were damaged.

“One of the school’s general assistants reported the incident, and the local fire brigade managed to douse the fire,” Mabona said.

Photographs supplied to News24 show the debris and the aftermath of the fire.

“The GDE (Gauteng Department of Education) is working tirelessly to ensure that learning at the school, as well as the health and safety of learners are not compromised due to this incident,” Mabona added.

He also stated that Grade R to Grade 3 pupils were not at school on Monday due to the fire.
