Africa-Press – South-Africa. It was tense in Orlando East on Monday after 15 patrons were shot dead at a local tavern over the weekend.

A large police contingent was deployed to the area and officers stationed themselves outside the tavern.

Inside, two men were cleaning the facility, and one of them removed liquor advertisements that were posted on the wall outside.

Bloodstains could be seen outside the venue, and a black sliding gate that leads into the tavern was riddled with bullets.

Pool players also frequented the establishment. In fact, most of the victims were playing pool at the time of the shooting over the weekend.

The owner wasn’t present when the incident occurred.

Police Minister Bheki Cele and his entourage are expected to visit the tavern later on Monday.

The incident occurred after two people were killed at a tavern in Katlehong in Ekurhuleni on Friday, when gunmen randomly opened fire on patrons.

A shooting was also reported at a tavern in Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday.

Two weeks ago, in East London in the Eastern Cape, 21 teens died at Enyobeni tavern. The 12 girls and nine boys mysteriously died during and after a party organised at the Scenery Park venue.

On Sunday, ANC spokesperson Pule Mabe expressed concern over the number of deaths that have occurred at establishments that sell alcohol.
