Africa-Press – South-Africa. A Grade 11 pupil died on Monday after being stabbed at General Smuts High School in Vereeniging, Gauteng.
The 19-year-old pupil was allegedly confronted by a pupil from Thuto-Tiro High School in Sebokeng.
The pupil was declared dead when he arrived at hospital.
Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Sello said the person alleged to have stabbed the pupil had been arrested.
Provincial education department spokesperson Steve Mabona on Tuesday said: “We understand that the learner from Thuto-Tiro stabbed a learner from General Smuts, and unfortunately, the learner from General Smuts passed away. We have dispatched a team of psychologists to visit the school this morning and provide the necessary support,” Mabona said.

Meanwhile, parents gathered at General Smuts on Tuesday after the stabbing to protest against the behaviour of pupils at the school, complaining about the use of drugs and misbehaviour.
Police officers ordered the group not to enter the premises.
“It is quite sad what happened at the school, and we just want to say to parents to assist us to instil discipline in our children at all times. They need to understand the school environment is for schooling, and you cannot go there and be ill-disciplined,” Mabona added.
The school governing body held a meeting with parents on Tuesday morning.
In a recent video uploaded on social media, adults can be seen searching pupils before they enter the school. One of the adults is seen grabbing a pupil’s bag before slapping him.
