Africa-Press – South-Africa. Gauteng police are investigating a culpable homicide case after a 7-year-old Grade 1 Curro Thatchfield Primary School pupil was knocked over in Centurion, Gauteng.

The incident happened during the school run at around 07:45 on Wednesday.

The child has been identified as Azania Madonsela.

Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo said it was reported that a parent had lost control of her vehicle and knocked over the child.

“The child was certified dead on the scene. A police investigation is under way and no arrests have been made,” Masondo added.

The school confirmed the incident and said counsellors had been dispatched to offer counselling to pupils and staff.

“Curro’s deepest sympathies and support are with the family and all involved in this terrible tragedy.

“The safety and security of Curro’s learners and staff members remain its top priority and where possible, the group takes proactive action in seeing to prevent incidents of this nature.”
