Africa-Press – South-Africa. The Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg has granted the Hawks a final order to seize R9 million worth of gold from alleged smuggler Masnire Tashinga Nyasa.

Nyasa had attempted to smuggle 23 pieces of gold into South Africa in May last year.

He was arrested on arrival from Zimbabwe at OR Tambo International Airport.

News24 reported the arrest followed customs officials’ request to scan his luggage, during which the gold was found.

He failed to declare the gold, nor did he have a permit or licence to possess it.

He was released on R100 000 bail after appearing in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on charges of illegally dealing in precious metals.

Gauteng Hawks spokesperson Captain Lloyd Ramovha said the court issued the order on 26 October.
