Africa-Press – South-Africa. Gauteng police are searching for five robbers in connection with a cash-in-transit heist at Kagiso Mall in Krugersdorp on Monday.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Robert Netshiunda confirmed the incident to News24 on Tuesday after video footage of the incident circulated on social media.

The video footage shows a security guard entering a steel door next to an ATM and pushing a bag – believed to contain money – inside. As the guard is about to close the steel door, an armed man wearing a blue jacket and a cap rushes to the door and attempts to open it.

The security guard then suddenly reappears at the door and tackles the gunman. The gunman drags him from the door, and both fall to the ground.

A person using the ATM watches the scene unfold in front of him for a few seconds and then flees as the two are involved in a scuffle. Another man heads for the steel door, opens it, grabs the bag, drags it out and flees with it.

Netshiunda said the security guards were about to load money into an ATM at Kagiso Mall when one of them was allegedly accosted by five armed suspects who reportedly disarmed them.

He said no shots were fired, and the robbers fled with an undisclosed amount of money in a black Mercedes-Benz C-Class. Police investigations were continuing, Netshiunda added.
