Africa-Press – South-Africa. Police in Vanderbijlpark, Gauteng, are searching for missing couple Giving Makhangeni Mokoena and his pregnant girlfriend, Nokuphila Dladla.
Mokoena was last seen on Wednesday buying food for Dladla. He wore beige shorts and a black-and-white hat.
A concerned colleague raised the alarm the next day after Mokoena missed his shift at work. The colleague went to look for him at his house, but he and his girlfriend were not there. Mokoena’s grey Kia Cerato was also missing.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Gertrude Makhale said authorities conducted a preliminary investigation by contacted the couple’s friends, family and colleagues.
“Mortuaries and hospitals were also visited, with no success,” said Makhale.
A spokesperson for the Mokoena family, Moroesi Dhlamine, told News24 the family was worried because Dladla was due to give birth this month. She said the family reported the couple missing 24 hours after their disappearance on Friday.
Dhlamine said the family had informed the police about their suspicions regarding the couple’s whereabouts but added that they were not sure if police were investigating the leads.
“Today (Monday), the family went to the police station to get the case number. The investigating officer said he would follow up on the lead tomorrow (Tuesday),” she added.
According to Dhlamine, Mokoena’s 6-year-old son from a previous relationship is unaware of his father’s disappearance.
