Africa-Press – South-Africa. Makana mayor Yandiswa Vara has described the untimely death of radio personality, Lungiswa Haarmans, as a loss, not just to her fans, but to the radio world at large.

Forty-one-year-old “Lulu”, as listeners fondly knew her, presented her show, Khanya Gqiyazana on Umhlobo Wenene FM, and passed away on Thursday after being admitted to Settlers Hospital.

According to Vara, the news of Haarmans’ passing was officially announced on Umhlobo Wenene FM on Friday, during the drive-time show.

“Lulu’s death is not just a loss to her fans but to the radio world at large. She has left a lasting legacy in the radio industry. Various radio presenters on Umhlobo Wenene FM and media personalities from different organisations spoke highly of both her love for radio and her talent,” added Vara.

She referred to the Makhanda-born radio star as a great inspiration to aspiring local radio presenters.

“Words can never be enough to fully express the sense of loss caused by the death of such a young and talented ambassador of our city. To the Haarmans family, please know that you are not alone during this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult period,” said Vara.
