EMPD raid on illegally occupied municipal building leads to discovery of man's body

Africa-Press – South-Africa. An operation this week by the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) led to the discovery of a man’s body.

The deceased was estimated to be between 20 and 30 years old.

The body was discovered when officers conducted an operation to remove people illegally occupying a building owned by the City.

EMPD spokesperson Kelebogile Thepa said officers from the Bronberg Precinct conducted a by-laws operation on Tuesday, which was focused on abandoned buildings in the Crystal Park area.

“Members came across two men, aged 20 and 30, and a woman in her 20s, residing in a building situated on Strathmore Street, where entry was gained by breaking the locks open.

“The trio were immediately removed from the building and issued with a warning that legal proceedings would be instituted against them should the trespassing be repeated,” Thepa said.

Thepa added:

Thepa said that, among other by-law operations held in the Springs area, officers visited several scrapyards and businesses to check for valid permits and overall compliance.

“Numerous goods were confiscated from operators who failed to meet compliance standards, as well as from operators in possession of invalid or expired permits.

“This is an ongoing operation. The EMPD urges businesses to comply with by-laws to avoid finding themselves on the wrong side of the law,” Thepa said.
