Africa-Press – South-Africa. Five teenagers who “rescued” a girl from knife-carrying attackers, only to allegedly rape her after giving her a place to sleep, have been arrested.

Three of the alleged rapists are minors and were released into the care of their parents following their arrests.

However, two others, Thokozani Nkuna and Thapelo Ndlela, both 18, appeared at Tsakane Magistrate’s Court on Friday and were granted R1 000 bail each.

Gauteng National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana said the girl was returning from a function with two friends when a group of boys who were carrying knives approached them from behind.

“While the three were running in different directions, the victim was approached by a group of boys who promised to protect her,” said Mahanjana.

“This group consisted of Nkuna, Ndlela, and three minor boys who are aged between 15 and 16.

“The victim and the group of boys proceeded to walk to a shack in extension 19 in Tsakane. On arrival, one of the boys offered her hubbly, and she then later went to sleep.”

“The girl was woken by one of the boys undressing her. All five raped her.”

Mahanjana said the group released her in the morning after her brother’s girlfriend came looking for her.

The five were later arrested and some of them were handed over to the police by the community.

“In court, Nkuna and Ndlela asked to be released on bail in the amount of R1 000, and affidavits were submitted to the court.

“During the ruling, the magistrate said that it is in the interest of justice to release the accused on bail and that exceptional circumstances were found, therefore, bail was granted. The matter was postponed to 13 June 2023, for a regional court appearance,” said Mahanjana.
