Despite minor disruptions in some provinces, the IEC said that the turnout for special voting surpassed the 2019 numbers.
The IEC wrapped up the second day of special votes on Tuesday.
Almost one million people cast their special votes at about 22,000 polling stations across the country.
More than 1.6 million people registered for special voting.
IEC chief electoral officer, Sy Mamabolo, said that more than half of these voters turned up.
“At a point in the afternoon, indications are that 937,000 voters had been processed.”
Mamabolo said that the IEC Was now gearing up for election day on Wednesday.
“Voters who, for whatever reason, were unable to cast their special vote may still vote at a station that they are registered tomorrow.”
He said that law enforcement would be on high alert to prevent any disruptions.
