The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) said that its system did not crash on Friday morning.
IEC CEO, Sy Mamabolo, of Friday afternoon briefed the media on results captured at the national results operation centre in Midrand.

“We regret the incident this morning when the leaderboards at centres could not display the results. We wish to emphasise our system did not crash, as reported, and no data was compromised,” Mamabolo said.
The commission said that 71.76 % of results had been captured nationally so far.
The commission is racing against the clock to complete counting results.
“The commission will declare the results of this election sometime over the weekend. After which, the list of elected representatives will be published in the government gazette and thereafter handed over to the Chief Justice for purposes of convening the first meeting of the first National Assembly,” Mamabolo added.
