Treasury says it will be saving costs as it prepares for third budget

Africa-Press – South-Africa. National Treasury says it will be saving costs as it prepares for the third budget later in May.

This is after spending R2.4 million on the February budget, which was postponed due to the clash over the proposed VAT increase.

National Treasury Director-General Duncan Pieterse said that the costs of the last two budgets also did not constitute fruitless and wasteful expenditure.

Briefing the media this week on plans for the 21 May budget, Pieterse said that they were mindful of the negative perceptions on the costs.

“We are mindful of the fact that these costs, as they are being incurred and as we are doing multiple budgets, they can be viewed in a very negative light. So, for example, for the next budget we are tabling, we are going to cut down on the printing for example. Some of the documents will only be made available electronically and we will cut down on other aspects of the budget process as well.”
