KZN Government Confirms Two Deaths from Weather Disasters

Africa-Press – South-Africa. The KwaZulu-Natal provincial government says the recent weather-related disasters have claimed the lives of two people in the province.

KZN was hit by severe weather, including rain, thunderstorms, snowfall and hail last week.

More than 400 homes in parts of the province were left damaged.

On Tuesday, government officials, including Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) Minister Velenkosini Hlabisa and Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli, visited the worst-affected community of Mpendle.

Tuesday marks a week since inclement weather left a trail of destruction in parts of KZN.

While snowfall blocked the N2 highway, impacting the economy, severe rainfall and strong winds left many homeless.

Ntuli confirmed that two people died as a result of the bad weather.

“Here in Impendle alone, 140 families were affected, and 31 they don’t have shelter and they actually staying with their neighbours. Unfortunately, part is the news that we’ve just received in the morning that in eThekwini two lives were lost during this current disaster.”
