Africa-Press – South-Africa. Contractors working with Johannesburg City Power have gone on strike after not receiving payment for their services for five months.
The utility has confirmed that it owes its contractors over R1 billion.
City Power said it is engaged in discussions with the contractors to try and resolve the dispute.
Spokesperson Isaac Mangena said the matter is being dealt with.
“We did commit that between today [Wednesday] and tomorrow [Thursday], we will be able to release about R56 million so that we can pay some of the contractors… This is the little that the shareholder managed to release to cover the payments.”
