Khumalo's Lawyer Cites Prejudice in Bail Postponement

Africa-Press – South-Africa. The lawyer representing Crime Intelligence boss Dumisani Khumalo and his two co-accused claims her clients are being prejudiced following a court decision to postpone a matter regarding the relaxation of their bail conditions.

Khumalo, along with fellow Crime Intelligence officials Precious Madondo and Josias Lekalakala, faces fraud and corruption charges related to the alleged appointment of an unqualified person to a specialised division within Crime Intelligence.

Appearing before the Pretoria Regional Court on Wednesday morning, Zandile Mshololo, the legal representative for the trio, stated her clients have been waiting for two months for the issue of their bail conditions to be addressed.

Mshololo told the court that the delay has been “unreasonable”, stating that the amendmentto their bail conditions would allow them “to go back to work and be able to execute their duties in terms of the South African Police Service (SAPS) that are empowered on them.”

The trio’s application for amended bail conditions has been stalled and will now only proceed once a separate application to review the recusal of Magistrate Vusumuzi Mahlangu is finalised.

Magistrate Mahlangu previously recused himself from the case after allegations were made against the judiciary at the Madlanga Commission. According to the report, neither the State nor the defence had requested his recusal from the matter.
