Africa-Press – South-Africa. The Madlanga Commission has heard that Hawks officers in the Tactical Operations Management Section were diverted from an assignment in the North West to go to the Sandton home of Katiso “KT” Molefe.
Warrant Officer Sabelo Nkosi, who is attached to the unit, has testified on Monday morning that he received an instruction to go to a Sandton address where people were allegedly posing as legitimate police officers.
The commission, established to look into alleged corruption in the justice sector, is on Monday focusing on Molefe’s arrest and the suspected interference by Hawks members.
On 6 December 2024, Nkosi said that he was preparing to head to an important operation in the North West.
However, before he could leave, he received a call from his superior, Brigadier Lesiba Mokeona, saying he was being diverted to an urgent assignment in Sandton to verify whether there was a legitimate police operation taking place.
Nkosi said this left him frustrated, as this was a “insignificant verification”.
“To me, that area where the address is, we do have a local police station, and if it was such an urgency, it was 60 kilometres away from me, I don’t think there is an area or suburb where a police station is more than 20 kilometres away.”
Nkosi said when he got to Molefe’s house, he found out it was a legitimate police operation.
