Africa-Press – South-Africa. The African National Congress (ANC) said that suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu will continue with his party duties while on special leave from Cabinet.
Mchunu was placed on leave following allegations by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi that he interfered in high-profile criminal investigations.
The ANC said that Mchunu had agreed to step aside from some organisational roles while he cooperates with both the Madlanga Commission and the party’s integrity commission.
Earlier this week, Mchunu handed over his digital devices to the political killings task team, as part of an ongoing investigation.
His spokesperson, Sthembiso Mshengu, confirmed a search-and-seizure warrant was executed on Thursday.
In a statement, the ANC national executive committee (NEC) said it would revisit the matter if new developments arose.
The NEC reiterated that members facing criminal charges are expected to step aside until their cases are resolved.
