Africa-Press – South-Africa. As the Western Cape heads into its high-risk fire season, the Cape Winelands District Municipality says all plans to battle fires are in place.
The municipality briefed the media on its preparedness during a graduation ceremony of its new firefighters in Cape Town on Friday.
The Western Cape has already experienced a surge in wildfires recently, with hot and windy conditions elevating fire risk across several districts.
In the Cape Winelands, firefighters responded to at least five separate blazes a few weeks ago.
Cape Winelands fire chief Wayne Josias said it’s all systems go in the province.
“We have regular conversations with our fire chiefs in the Western Cape. We have ironed out details in terms of partnerships, not only with districts and cities, but also with our partners FPA (Fire Protection Association) and CapeNature.”
He added that the new recruits were also ready to be deployed to the fire battlefields.
