Africa-Press – South-Africa. The Gautrain’s nearly 20-year agreement with its current operator, Bombela Concession Company, ends on Friday.
The company will now conclude negotiations with the preferred bidder over the next six months.
During this period, Bombela Concession will continue to manage the Gautrain under a contractual holdover agreement.
The bidder, if successful, will be tasked with operating, maintaining, refurbishing, upgrading and modernising the high-speed rail system.
Gautrain Spokesperson Albi Modise has assured passengers that services will continue without interruption.
“Looking ahead, the next phase under a new concessionaire will prioritise enhancing the passenger experience through modernised technology and improved amenities, transforming stations and surrounding precincts into integrated hubs for business, retail, and social activities through transit-oriented development and introducing more flexible and dynamic pricing to improve affordability and accessibility.”
