Africa-Press – South-Africa. The City of Cape Town said that dam levels which supply the metro have now dropped to 49.2 percent.

Officials warn that while Cape Town it is not heading for Day Zero, dam levels could fall to 40 percent by May.

Cape Town’s MMC for Water and Sanitation, Zahid Badroodien, said that water supply is currently 47 million litres per day above target.

He added hat, although water restrictions are scheduled to be implemented in November, the chances of introducing them earlier are growing as water consumption remains high.

Badroodien also said that Cape Town is in an early warning phase due to below-average rainfall.

The city has dedicated a half billion rand to its detecting and repair programme, adding that it will share the responsibility of water conservation.
