Africa-Press – South-Africa. North West acting Premier Nono Maloyi has fired Social Development MEC Boitumelo Moiloa, who had been on suspension for over a month.

Moiloa was relieved of her duties on Tuesday and has been replaced by Lazurus Mokgosi, the ANC provincial deputy chairperson.

Mokgosi was sworn-in on Wednesday morning.

“The intervention is making positive progress and nearing completion. The public will be informed in due course of the outcome of various areas of intervention in the department,” Maloyi said.

Premier Bushy Maape is still on sick leave after he had surgery last month.

Before going on sick leave, Maape had placed Moiloa and the head of the social development department, Relebohile Mofokane, on “special leave” because they were unable to work together.

This was done in an attempt to mitigate the “near-administrative paralysis” caused by the infighting, Maape said at the time.

He had also said their inability to work together placed the department’s delivery of services and good governance at risk.

Moiloa was then suspended with immediate effect while Mofokane was placed on a one-month special leave.

Maloyi said Obakeng Mongale, the acting HOD, will continue with his acting role until the end of July 2023.
