Africa-Press – South-Africa. To address its dwindling support among minority races in the country, the African National Congress (ANC) said it needs to ensure its leadership and members reflect the diversity of the country.

The party has released its discussion pages ahead of its national general council this December.

The council is a mid-term review forum of the ANC’s challenges and progress since its last elective conference.

In its discussion papers, the ANC acknowledges it never enjoyed popular support among white people.

However, it has noted a significant decline in the number of its branches among Indian and coloured communities.

The party said many working-class coloured people feel alienated from the democratic project and wrongly believe their limited privileges under apartheid have been replaced by marginalisation.

In the Indian community, the ANC said that while they are performing better economically, they feel politically sidelined.

The ANC said it needed to proactively recruit capable leaders from minority communities to show the organisation belongs to all.
