Africa-Press – South-Africa. President Cyril Ramaphosa believes the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) and the police will make a strong combination when they team up to fight gang violence and illegal mining in two provinces.
He said the police and the army have collaborated successfully in the past.
Ramaphosa was addressing the media on Friday following yesterday’s announcement in his State of the Nation Address.
He said the soldiers will be deployed in Gauteng and the Western Cape in due course.
“So I think it’s a very good combination and it’s a combination that has worked very well in the past. We saw that very well during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
He said the soldiers will act as a deterrent to criminals.
