Bogus psychologist gets life sentence for using spade to kill mom

Africa-Press – South-Africa. An Eastern Cape man who ran an industrial psychology practice even though he wasn’t qualified, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his 60-year-old mother, as well as fraud in connection with the bogus practice.

Nathaniel Molefe Kosie, 42, was also sentenced in the Sterkspruit Regional Court to 15 years for robbery with aggravating circumstances, and seven years for defeating the administration of justice.

According to police, Kosie called them on 20 August 2018, and claimed he had found his mother dead on her bedroom floor in Sterkspruit, in the Eastern Cape.

Eastern Cape police spokesperson, Captain Ursula Roelofse said:

On further investigation, police noticed that a spade had been used to attack the woman.

At the time, Kosie said his mother’s TV and car were missing.

The car was found abandoned at a bus rank yard the next day.

“On close investigation, the TV was found in the boot of the vehicle, still intact, and a rope similar to the one that was used to tie the deceased was found hanging from the boot,” Roelofse added.

Eastern Cape National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) regional spokesperson Luxolo Tyali said investigations also revealed that the day before Kosie called police to report his mother’s death, he had taken his receptionist to a purported after-hours consultation. They drove to Colville and Kosie left the receptionist in the car while he went to his purported client.

He returned after two hours in his mother’s car and instructed the receptionist to follow him home in his car.

“Once the receptionist learnt that the deceased had been killed and the car [stolen], he approached the police, telling them the car was never stolen but had been driven there by his boss, Kosie. His fingerprints were found on the TV that was in the boot of the deceased’s car,” Tyali said.

When the receptionist came forward, police also discovered that Kosie had been trading as an industrial psychologist without any qualifications and they charged him with fraud in connection with the allegation.

Tyali said:

He was sentenced to seven years for the fraud, which has to be served concurrently with his other sentences.
