Africa-Press – South-Africa. A caregiver, 20, who allegedly raped a three-year-old girl in the North West, made his first appearance in the Brits Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
He was arrested on Friday.
According to North West police spokesperson, Colonel Adele Myburgh, a concerned neighbour heard a child crying and went to investigate.
“The three-year-old girl was found in the presence of the accused, who is the child’s caregiver,” Myburgh said.
She said that, after further investigation, the neighbour realised the child had been raped.

Police were called to the scene; the child was taken for medical attention, which confirmed the rape, she said.
According to Myburgh, the minor’s parents were not present at the time.
The North West police commissioner, Lieutenant-General Sello Kwena, condemned the incident, but thanked the neighbour for taking action.
“It is disturbing that such a vulnerable child was violated by a person who was supposed to take care of her,” said Kwena.
The accused remains in custody and will return to court on 5 October 2022.
