Africa-Press – South-Africa. Police top brass are expected to pay tribute to two Eastern Cape police officers who were murdered this month.

Police Minister Bheki Cele and Deputy Minister Cassel Mathale will deliver eulogies at the funeral services in Gqeberha and Nqamakhwe in the Eastern Cape.

Both officers were shot and killed while on duty.

Sergeant Lwando Lawrence Bunga, who served in the Public Order Policing Unit, lost his life while he and his team were responding to an attempted armed robbery in East London on Monday.

Two days later, in Motherwell, Sergeant Mario Nel, a court orderly, was fatally shot by a suspect in the court passages while on duty.

The suspect was arrested and the firearm he had taken from Nel was recovered.

Cele will deliver the eulogy at Nel’s funeral service on Friday in Gqeberha.

Mathale will deliver the eulogy at Bunga’s funeral service in Nqamakhwe in the Amatole District Municipality.

News24 previously reported that three other police officers were killed in the past week in Gauteng.

Two police officers were shot metres from a state vehicle in Roodepoort on Wednesday.

On Sunday, two officers were shot while attending to a complaint in Atteridgeville. One of them died in hospital.
