City of Tshwane has less than 5 days to elect new mayor

Africa-Press – South-Africa. A special council meeting to elect a new City of Tshwane mayor has been set down for next week Wednesday.

The capital has been without a mayor since last week when Democratic Alliance (DA) councillor Cilliers Brink was removed through a motion of no confidence.

Following Brink’s removal, the council had 14 days to elect Brink’s successor.

Political parties in Tshwane now have less than five days to form a coalition government.

ActionSA and the African National Congress (ANC) who steered Brink’s removal campaign have not found each other regarding a suitable mayoral candidate.

ActionSA wants its councillor and the current Acting Mayor Dr Nasiphi Moya to ascend to the top position.

However, the ANC said because it has the most council seats in Tshwane the mayoral candidate should emerge from its caucus.

At the same time, the DA is adamant on fielding Brink again as its mayoral candidate.
