Africa-Press – South-Africa. The South African Weather Service has warned of a stretch of cold, wet and windy weather conditions expected across most parts of the country this weekend.

Forecasters have also warned of possible localised flooding, almost impossible driving conditions and disruptions to outdoor activities.

Heavy rain, aggressive winds and a sharp drop in temperatures are expected, with colder conditions spreading into inland provinces, including the Free State, Gauteng, and KwaZulu-Natal.

Afternoon temperatures in some areas could fall to between 10 and 12 degrees.

Senior forecaster Tokelo Chiloane said two back-to-back cold fronts will affect the Western Cape before moving east.

“A cold front associated with an upper trough is currently affecting South Africa. An upper trough is a weather system that develops at high altitude and enhances the intensity of surface systems such as cold fronts. As a result, scattered showers and thundershowers are expected over Gauteng as well as the southwestern parts of the Western Cape, particularly over the Cape Metropole. Beach activities in this area may be disrupted by rain, strong winds and rough sea conditions with high waves.”
