Africa-Press – South-Africa. Police arrested four men on Thursday in connection with a cash-in-transit heist that occurred on the R556 in Mmaditlhokwa in the North West on Monday.

Officers also recovered money stolen during the heist.

It is believed that they were part of a group of 10 men who ambushed a cash van, near the R556 on Monday.

National police spokesperson, Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, said the robbers rammed into and blew up the cash van before they fled from the scene with an undisclosed amount of money. Two security guards were wounded and taken to a nearby hospital for medical care, Mathe added.

An intelligence-driven operation led the Brits Trio Task Team and Crime Intelligence Officers to the R511, where they found four people travelling in a Hyundai H1.

“A shootout ensued, which led to the arrest of the four suspects, who were also found to be in possession of an undisclosed amount of money.”

All four are under police guard in hospital. They face charges of attempted murder, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, and possession of stolen property.

“Police are in pursuit of more suspects linked to this crime,” Mathe added.
