Africa-Press – South-Africa. Veteran African National Congress (ANC) politician, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, has arrived at the Pretoria Magistrates Court where she will be appearing on corruption charges.Mapisa-Nqakula faces 12 counts of corruption and money laundering.
It’s alleged she received over R4.5 million in kickbacks from a defence contractor back when she was the defence minister.Mapisa-Nqakula has through statements and her legal representatives said the case against her is weak.
But it has been an interesting couple of days for the politician. Two days ago, she was second in the succession line to the presidency. On Thursday, the former Speaker of Parliament woke up to a group of journalists camped outside her Bruma house, in Johannesburg.
Her lawyers whisked her away in dark-tinted cars to the Lyttleton police station in Centurion, where she was processed. Mapisa-Nqakula is now set to appear in the court dock as accused number one.
