Africa-Press – South-Africa. Civil society group Corruption Watch has raised concerns about the process followed in the appointment of Advocate Andy Mothibi as National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP).
It has raised issues about Mothibi not being subjected to the same selection process as other candidates.
Last month, a seven-person advisory panel conducted interviews with six shortlisted candidates for the NDPP role.
The panel recommended to Ramaphosa that none of the candidates were suitable for the position.
Corruption Watch’s executive director, Lebogang Ramafoko: “While Advocate Mothibi brings valuable experience from his decade leading the special investigating unit, we are concerned that he was not subjected to the same interview process as the other shortlisted candidates.”
Ramafoko said the critical role of the NDPP in fighting corruption cannot be overstated.
“The head of the NPA is at the forefront of seeking accountability in the country, and it is imperative that the appointed candidate undertakes this task without fear or favour, is committed to the highest ethical standards and is well placed to collaborate with law enforcement stakeholders across the spectrum.”
