Africa-Press – South-Africa. The Democratic Alliance (DA) is electing a new regional leadership in Tshwane on Saturday, with the mandate of taking back the capital.

The party is holding an elective conference for its Gauteng north region in Pretoria.

It comes as the party gears up for the upcoming local government elections.

The DA governed Tshwane for over eight years through coalitions before being removed in 2023.

Since moving to the opposition benches, the party said it’s been focusing on holding the current administration accountable and growing its supporter base in Tshwane.

Mayoral candidate for Tshwane Cilliers Brink said for the first time, the party has branches in all of Tshwane’s 107 wards.

“As much as we are determined to get back in government, we are not waiting for November; we are here to take back our city. When I say ‘our’ I don’t mean the politicians, or the DA – I mean the honest hard-working people who work, save and abide by the rules and who expect their leaders to do the same.”

The elective conference is a one-day event, with the results expected later in the afternoon.
