Africa-Press – South-Africa. It’s a big day for the future of the Democratic Alliance (DA) as the party prepares to elect its new leaders on Sunday morning.
The party’s federal congress enters its second and final day at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand.
On Saturday, delegates focused heavily on constitutional amendments and policy discussions that govern the organisation.
The DA will use a digital voting system that allows all delegates at its federal congress to cast their ballots for the party’s next leaders.
Voting delegates will be directed to a separate venue from the main plenary, where private cubicles equipped with laptops are set up for casting their ballots.
The party says the electronic system is known for its quick vote counting and its ability to produce verifiable results in the event of any disputes.
Helen Zille, who now no longer holds a leadership position in the party, has wished its soon-to-be-elected leaders well.
“Go forth, fight the good fight, go out and multiply support for the DA because that will make our country the wonderful, successful, and great country we know it can be.”
Cape Town mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis and the party’s Sedibeng caucus leader, Sibusiso Dyonase, are battling it out for the federal leader position.
Meanwhile, Solly Msimnaga, the party’s leader in Gauteng, will go against Ivan Mayor to try and take over the federal chairperson position.
