Detective accused of raping teenager at police station to apply for bail

Africa-Press – South-Africa. The Eastern Cape police officer accused of raping a 17-year-old teenager inside a police station is expected to apply for bail next Monday.

The 45-year-old man, who worked as a detective at the Kei Mouth police station, made his first appearance in the East London Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

The matter was postponed to 29 August 2022, for a formal bail application.

According to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID), the accused went to pick up the teenager for an interview after she opened a case of assault against her boyfriend.

“On the way to the police station, the suspect made some sexual advances to the victim, which she rejected,” IPID spokesperson Lizzy Suping said.

However, once at the police station, instead of taking her statement, the detective allegedly raped the girl.

News24 previously reported that after the accused took the victim to his office, he started kissing her, before allegedly raping her.

The teen put up a fight and managed to escape the office.

“It is alleged the victim cried and, while the suspect was raping her, she bit the suspect on his left shoulder, she picked up a bottle and hit the suspect on his head until the bottle broke,” IPID said at the time.

It was further alleged that the teen then took a piece of the broken bottle and stabbed the detective in his shoulder.

After escaping, she immediately went to the charge office and reported the incident.

The detective has since resigned from the police.
