Drug dealer enters plea deal with State, sentenced to 8 years' imprisonment

Africa-Press – South-Africa. A 36-year-old man linked to a drug syndicate was sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment after pleading guilty to dealing drugs and escaping custody.

Chibuzo Ogbunuku was among a group of 10 men arrested between June 2021 and July 2022, during the ‘Dream On’ project in Bethal, Mpumalanga.

Nine of the men appeared in the Bethal Regional Court on Tuesday.

Ogbunuku, who entered a plea deal with the State, was sentenced for dealing drugs, conspiracy to commit an offence, corruption, escaping from custody, illegal entry, and departing or remaining in the country, according to Mpumalanga Hawks spokesperson Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi.

She said:

Sekgotodi said Mbusho Janvier Kikaranga, 35, the 10th accused, did not appear in court.

His matter was rolled over to 15 August for a bail application.
