Africa-Press – South-Africa. An Eastern Cape teenager reportedly stabbed and wounded a 45-year-old police officer who was allegedly raping her inside a police station.

The incident is said to have happened at the Kei Mouth police station last Monday, a day before Women’s Day.

Kei Mouth is a small seaside village outside East London and is a popular tourist destination.

The officer fetched the 17-year-old girl from her home to talk about a case she had opened against her boyfriend, said the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) in a statement.

While driving to the station, IPID added, the officer told the victim he wanted to have a relationship with her, but she declined his advances.

The pair then went to the detective’s office, where he allegedly started kissing her before raping her, said IPID spokesperson Grace Langa.

Langa added the girl put up a fight to escape the alleged perpetrator.

“It is alleged the victim cried and while the suspect was raping her, she bit the suspect on his left shoulder, she picked up a bottle and hit the suspect on his head until the bottle broke.”

She added the girl allegedly then took a piece of the broken bottle and stabbed the detective on his shoulder.

“It is said the victim took the suspect’s cellphone and threw it against the wall and as she was emotional, she further stomped on the suspect’s phone,” Langa said.

She then used the time the suspect was busy inspecting his broken phone to flee his office.

She rushed to the charge office and reported the incident to the officer’s colleagues.

Langa said a case of rape was opened immediately.

She added IPID investigators met the girl and arranged counselling for her.

The detective is expected to be arrested soon, said Langa.

She added the investigating officer was scheduled to meet with the National Prosecuting Authority on Wednesday to discuss the case.

Eastern Cape police spokesperson Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli said the case has been handed over to IPID for investigation.

The Police, Prisons and Civil Rights Union’s provincial secretary, Xolani Prusente, could not be immediately reached for comment.

His response will be added once received.
