Africa-Press – South-Africa. Ekurhuleni Mayor Doctor Xhakaza says bringing back community Imbizos has improved service delivery in the metro.
He said the engagements provide the city with a unique opportunity to deal directly with issues affecting residents.
Xhakaza addressed council on Thursday, reflecting on 100 days in office.
He said his administration has been able to get the small things right.
Xhakaza said since establishing a service delivery war room, the municipality has significantly decreased the turnaround time to fix leaking water pipes, streetlights, potholes and electricity issues.
“We use the Izimbizos to assist communities in Thembisa to deal and better understand the debt rehabilitation programme and also address the indigent applications. We feel this will go a long way in ensuring that how our communities better understand how we bill them, and it talks to the integrity and credibility of our finances,” Xhakaza said.
Meanwhile, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and ActionSA believe Xhakaza is taking credit for previous administration’s work.
