Africa-Press – South-Africa. Presidential spokesperson Vincent Magwenya said that everything possible was being done to ensure that the Government of National Unity (GNU) can be sustained for the full five-year term.
On Wednesday night, a committee led by Deputy President Paul Mashatile was due to meet to discuss a dispute resolution for the GNU.
On the agenda was to decide on the terms of reference for the way the clearing house mechanism would work, including the regularity of meetings and the issues that would be up for discussion.
Magwenya said that despite inevitable clashes that would arise, the GNU was committed for the long haul.
“We are confident that all members of the GNU are now well settled in their respective roles in government. There’s been evidence to that effect and we are equally confident that notwithstanding disagreements that are yet to emerge, no member of the GNU is going to leave the GNU. That we can say quite confidently, and even more so now that you have a mechanism that will be engaged on issues of dispute.”
