Africa-Press – South-Africa. A collision between a truck and a minibus taxi on the N4 highway outside Rustenburg in the North West has claimed five lives.
Another 14 people were injured, according to Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) spokesperson Simon Zwane.
“The cause of the crash is unknown and will be subject to an ongoing investigation,” he added.
Community Safety and Transport Management MEC Sello Lehari said the accident took place at around 18:45 on Thursday.
Both vehicles were travelling towards Swartruggens. The accident happened about four kilometres outside the farming area of Moedwil.
At around 23:30, emergency services officials were able to remove bodies that were trapped in the mangled taxi, Lehari added.
The road was closed for five hours to allow emergency crews to work.
The accident happened hours after a deadly crash between a bus and a truck on the N8, near Botshabelo in the Free State, in which eight people were killed.
More than 60 people were injured and around 40 were transported to hospital.
