Africa-Press – South-Africa. Five people were killed and three others were rushed to hospital following a crash on the N2 in Tugela, KwaZulu-Natal, on Saturday morning.

According to the KwaZulu-Natal Emergency Medical Services (EMS), a Toyota bakkie and an SUV collided head-on at around 09:30.

EMS spokesperson Zinhle Mngomezulu told News24 it was unclear what transpired.

“[The] Road Traffic [Management] Corporation is on scene controlling traffic in that area.”

The collision came after two trucks were involved in an accident in the vicinity of the Peter Brown Interchange near Town Hill in Pietermaritzburg earlier on Saturday morning.

One of the trucks overturned when the driver lost control of the vehicle after experiencing an issue with the brakes.

The second truck tried to avoid what was happening and swerved, before overturning. No one was injured.

Mngomezulu urged motorists to drive carefully as the roads in the province were wet and slippery.
