Africa-Press – South-Africa. Four men have appeared in court for allegedly kidnapping and murdering a Mpumalanga man.

The man was reportedly kidnapped after being accused of theft, and his body was later found dumped in a river.

Family members reported Skhumbuzo Intelligent Sikhumbane, 24, missing in Calcutta on Saturday, 2 July, according to police spokesperson Colonel Donald Mdhluli.

“According to the information received, the family indicated that they received a call from some people known to them [implying] that Sikhumbane was accused of theft of a laptop. Subsequent to that call, he disappeared without a trace,” said Mdhluli.

Police opened a kidnapping case and arrested the four men while continuing the search for Sikhumbane. The men appeared in the Mkhuhlu Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

Sikhumbane’s body was discovered in the Sabie River on Saturday, said Mdhluli.

Mdhluli added:

Prayer Mdluli, 29; Chris Zwane, 30; Kriel Khoza, 24; and Evidence Nkuna, 36, appeared in court on Tuesday. The case was postponed to Monday for a bail application. They remain in custody.

Mpumalanga police commissioner, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, has urged the public to make “use of the structures within the criminal justice system” instead of “taking the law into their own hands”.
