Africa-Press – South-Africa. Four Eastern Cape men have been sentenced for robbing a truck driver and his assistants in 2015.

Mbulelo Ntintili, Mike Mohamed, Siyanda Ngqame and Lelethu Ntyinkala were sentenced in the Qonce Regional Court on Friday after being found guilty of robbery with aggravating circumstances and kidnapping, said Hawks spokesperson Warrant Officer Bonnie Nxumalo.

“In October 2015, a truck with clothing worth R90 000 left a warehouse in East London to deliver the goods in Cradock and [Komani]. Along the way, a vehicle with unknown men forced the truck driver to stop and shoved him with his assistants into the vehicle boot at gunpoint. The accused later dumped them in a secluded area and fled in the truck,” said Nxumalo.

The incident was reported to the Kei Rand police. The men were arrested, and the stolen goods were recovered in an informal settlement in Mdantsane. The truck was found abandoned at a shopping mall, added Nxumalo.

Ntintili, Mohamed and Ngqame were each sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment for robbery and nine years’ imprisonment for three counts of kidnapping. Ntyinkala was also sentenced to nine years’ imprisonment on the kidnapping charges and eight years’ imprisonment for robbery.
