Africa-Press – South-Africa. A Free State ambulance overturned while transporting a 9-month-old baby and her mother on Monday afternoon, after it hit a pothole on the N8 near Tweespruit.
The vehicle landed on its side, Free State health department spokesperson Mondli Mvambi said.
The ambulance had been transferring the infant from Señorita Ntlabathi District Hospital in Ladybrand to Pelonomi Academic Hospital in Bloemfontein.
Both emergency medical services staff in the ambulance were injured in the crash and they were taken to Señorita Ntlabathi District Hospital for treatment.
The baby and her mother were transported to Pelonomi Academic Hospital in another ambulance.
“The mother complained of hand and neck pain after the accident. She’s currently at Pelonomi [Academic Hospital’s] trauma [unit], receiving medical care. The baby is fine without any injuries,” Mvambi added.
