Africa-Press – South-Africa. A Free State man has been sentenced to 15 years behind bars for beating a man to death with a knobkerrie at an initiation school.
Mpho Patrick Tladi from Bluegumbosch in Qwaqwa, killed Thabang Edwin Mokotla, 25, and assaulted his twin brother, Thabiso Edward Mokotla, in December 2018.
According to police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Mmako Mophiring, the incident happened at an initiation school on Velddvrede farm in Makwane-Qwaqwa.

“It was discovered that the conditions at the initiation [school were] not good, and the pair complained about it. Unfortunately, the accused attacked the twins with a knobkerrie and injured one and [the] other one [was] killed,” Mophiring said.
Tladi was given 15 years for murder and three years for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. The sentences will run concurrently.
Acting Free State police commissioner Major-General Solly Lesia welcomed the sentence and applauded the investigating officer for the “great work done, and justice served to the family of the deceased and friends”.
