Africa-Press – South-Africa. Free State police have arrested an 18-year-old boy in connection with the murder of a 21-year-old man from Kestell.
Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Mmako Mophiring, said David Nvula Dube was injured when the teen allegedly used a rock to bludgeon him over the head during a fight last week.
Mophiring said eyewitnesses did not report the incident to police until after Dube succumbed to his injuries on Thursday. He died at a hospital in Bloemfontein.
“What usually happens is that when young men get into street fights, they don’t want to report them to the police because they want revenge. The community only called the ambulance after the fight and neglected to call the police because they thought they wouldn’t have the chance to [take] revenge, and possibly because they thought he (the victim) would be fine,” he said.

Mophiring said Dube’s family reported the incident on Monday. On Thursday, the hospital informed police that Dube had succumbed to his injuries.
“The investigating officer launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death and learnt about Dube’s involvement in a fight with the teenager.
“When the police arrived at his home, he was not on the run because he didn’t think Dube would die,” he said.
Mophiring said Dube was a high school pupil, but could not confirm the school’s name or in which grade he had been.
The alleged perpetrator is not a pupil and is expected to appear in the Kestell Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
