Gauteng Mandates Safety Inspections for Scholar Transport

Africa-Press – South-Africa. The roadworthiness of school transport operators in Gauteng will be tested during a mandatory inspection this month.

In a brief statement, the Gauteng government announced that all contracted pupil transport services will be required to present their vehicles for roadworthiness tests at vehicle testing stations in the province.

The inspections will start on Tuesday and run until the end of the month.

Government said that those who fail to present their vehicles for testing will face precautionary suspension of services until their vehicles have been successfully tested.

This follows last month’s fatal crash in the Vaal, in which 14 pupils died when the taxi they were travelling in collided with a truck
