Africa-Press – South-Africa. Matrics in Gauteng say they are confident that they will do well in their exams ahead of their first paper on Monday.
Nearly 200,000 candidates in Gauteng registered this year.
Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube visited the Soshanguve East Secondary School to monitor the first day of exams.
Some pupils at the school said they were excited while others were anxious about the exams.
“It’s such a great pleasure to be able to write this exam because not everyone is going to write this exam but then it what it is after all,” one grade 12 pupil said.
“I feel a little scared because I was ready to write these examinations. They’re coming with a bit of pressure,” another pupil said.
Soshanguve East Secondary School achieved an 87.1% pass rate last year compared to the 84.8% in 2022.
For many pupils, the final year of their schooling career is a culmination of years of hard work and dedication.
Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane is also expected to join Minister Gwarube at the school.
